Both of these issues can lead to major back problems, so drinking lots of water everyday can be the most beneficial (and easiest) preventative measure in your arsenal!

Be sure that you do not wear a heavy backpack and watch how you have it positioned on your back. Having too much in your backpack can cause strain in your back, which can cause pain. Also, if you have it too high or too low, you risk straining your back.

One of the most common causes of back discomfort is an accidental injury. You can take steps to minimize this risk by ensuring that your environment is as safe as possible. Tripping hazards and other accident causes are multiplicative dangers: When you try to live with them, you expose yourself repeatedly to potential injury. Make the effort, instead, to eliminate such hazards from your environment.

Rest your back to provide immediate relief from pulled or strained muscles. If possible, lie flat on a firm surface and allow your back muscles to relax. Pay attention to your position and allow your back to rest in a natural position suited to the curves of the spine. It may be necessary to place a small pillow beneath your lower back or neck to provide adequate support to these areas.

Once you rest, you must begin to relax or else you are not fully benefiting from your time of rest. Relaxing is realizing your position and allowing your body to surrender to relaxation.

Being overweight is especially hindering to your back as the extra pounds cause strain on your lower back. A good diet needs to be implemented and a healthy weight in order to protect your back from physical harm due to obesity or extra weight. Live healthy, and keep your back healthy.

Sitting down for prolonged periods can be a bad idea for back pain sufferers. Even if you have to sit down all day at work, try to get up and walk around every half hour or so. It doesn't have to be a long walk, but getting up and moving around a bit will do well for your back.

Cultivate good posture to save yourself from back discomfort. A proper, healthy posture features good spinal alignment and avoids placing any strain on your back muscles. Your posture when standing, sitting or moving has a lot to do with the effort your back has to exert; good posture will keep your back muscles working efficiently.

For men, a simple way to reduce back discomfort is to get that wallet out of your back pocket! If you are like most men, that back pocket was just meant for your wallet, no matter how chock-filled of credit cards, receipts and money it may be. The problem is that wallet can be the cause of a lot of back discomfort as it changes your posture and stresses your back. Move your wallet to a front pocket, and you'll see a big difference.

So as you can see, you do not have to feel like you are getting older because of the back discomfort that you are feeling. These tips will help you live a better freer life without the back pain that has been slowing you down. So do not waste a minute and put this advice to use.
